Triceratops Track and Field sets eight personal bests at Ashland Alumni Open

ASHLAND, Ohio (athletics.tri-c.edu) – In their final team meeting of the season, the Cuyahoga Community College Track and Field team saw eight new personal bests set in a soggy two-day Ashland Alumni Open, April 24 and 25.

Distance runner Reese Brady (Fr.) was the Triceratops' highest finisher, taking eighth in the 5,000 meter with a personal best 19:31.65 time. Her run was just over one second behind the program record. She was joined in top ten finishes by sprinter Shaniya Philips (Fr.), who took 10^th in the 400 meter dash, clocking in with a personal best 1:01.90.

Fellow distance runner Holly Milbrandt (So.) had a strong outing in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, placing 11^th with a personal best time of 15:13.31

Most of the Triceratops sprinters were the ones topping their previous records, with Philips topping her previous best in the aforementioned 400 meter and the 200 meter dash (27.22 – 17^th). The 100 meter saw new bests from Jada Gardner (Fr.) (14.10 – 18^th) and Skyler Novicki (Fr.) (20.07 – 24^th). In addition to Phillips, Ahmyadi Wallace (Fr.) set a personal best in the 200 meter with a time of 28.07.

Novicki also topped a previous best in the discus throw, finishing 26^th with a 26.39 meter toss.

The Triceratops will be off until the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship, May 14-16, hosted by New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico. Competitors do have to qualify for entry to the event.
