The Triceratops suffered a disappointing doubleheader sweep on Saturday, falling in both ends of a twin bill as offensive struggles plagued the team throughout the day.
Game One: Pitching Excellence Not Enough in 2-1 Loss
In the opening contest, the Triceratops received outstanding pitching performances from Julee Phillips, but couldn't generate enough offense to support their efforts in a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat.
Phillips kept the opposition in check throughout the game, giving the Triceratops every chance to win. Despite the stellar work in the circle, the Triceratops managed just four hits on the afternoon, with Izzy Keppel collecting two hits.
The lone run for the Triceratops (Sophis Durbin) proved insufficient against a team that scratched across two runs, making the difference in the tightly-contested opener.
Game Two: Blowout Loss Despite Durbin's Efforts
The nightcap proved far more lopsided, as the Triceratops fell 15-4 in a game that got away from them early.
Sophia Durbin provided the lone bright spot in an otherwise difficult game, going 3-for-the-game at the plate and showing the kind of offensive production the team desperately needs. Christina Carroll also contributed with a two-hit performance, but the rest of the lineup couldn't follow suit.
The Triceratops' four runs were a season-high for the weekend, but the pitching staff struggled to contain the opposition's explosive offense, which plated 15 runs to turn the game into a rout.
