Joel Webb Shines as Triceratops Dominate Bobcats in 114-66 Victory
The Triceratops (17-9, 11-2) continued their dominant push toward postseason play, blowing out the visiting Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton (1-12, 1-21) 114-66 in a stunning display of offense and defense. Sophomore Joel Webb was the star of the show, showcasing the kind of performance Coach Aaron Nixon has been eagerly anticipating. Webb erupted for a career-high 32 points on a scorching 67% shooting from the field, iand 67% from beyond the arc (8/12). His offensive explosion was the backbone of the Triceratops' runaway victory.
From the opening tip, the Bobcats had no answer for the Triceratops' offense, which hummed smoothly throughout the night. Webb was joined by a dynamic supporting cast, with Devonte Greene contributing 27 points and nine rebounds (seven of which were offensive), while Chris Brownlee added 19 points, shooting 50% from three. Xavier Vann also made his mark, contributing 11 points eight rebounds, and 100% from the stripe. The team's playmaking was on full display as Adisa Molton dished out 12 assists, with just three turnovers, continuing to run the offense at a high level. Saevion Brown added a season-high seven assists and eight boards (four offensive).
It was clear from early on that Webb was locked in. His shooting display was nothing short of spectacular. "He could not miss," said Greene. "We wanted him to shine, and he did just that." Vann echoed the sentiment, "It was good to see him put it all together." Despite averaging just under 10 points per game on the season, Webb's breakout performance was exactly what the Triceratops needed. As Assistant Coach Chris Bundus put it, "Webb and Brownlee are supposed to have outings like this," adding that this type of output, especially with the regional tournament looming, bodes well for the team's playoff aspirations.
The Triceratops defense was also on full display, Corey Wilson recorded a season-high six steals to go with his 10 rebounds (six offensive), as he and Webb led the charge that forced the Bobcats into 17 turnovers. The Tops swarmed the ball handlers and made the Bobcats uncomfortable all night,
