The Tri-C Men's Basketball team traveled to Lorain County Community College for a game with the Commodores on Wednesday evening. LCCC came out hot as they had a double digit lead throughout the first half, but the Tops started to lock down on defense and at the break it was a 36-36 game.
The constant pressure by the Tops defense and timely rebounding kept LCCC at bay for most of the half although the Commodores made a mini-run with under two minutes to go to cut the lead to seven but that was a close as they would get. The dynamic duo of Manny Hill and two time OCCAC Player of the Week, Devin Haid were at it again as both scored 22 points. Haid added 11 rebounds and Hill had 8. Haid contributed 4 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks for an all around game. Tyishawn Smiley (12 points, 7 rebounds) and Tallice Landers (13 points) also had outstanding games. Patrick Gale came off the bench for to play 31 minutes and impacted the game from a defensive standpint with 11 rebounds (8 on the defensive end).
The Tops move to 20-4 on the season and 9-2 in the OCCAC. They will travel to Owens CC (5-15, 3-9) on Saturday for a 1 pm tip and return home on Sunday to host Detroit Community Christian College (2-16) for a 12 pm tip.
With two more wins, the Tops will set up a huge showdown with league leading Lakeland on Ben Wallace Jersey Retirement Day next Wednesday at 7:30.
