Wallace's No. 4, which he wore during his time season at Tri-C, will be hoisted to the rafters of the Metro gymnasium at halftime of the men's game versus Lakeland Community College.
While at Tri-C, Wallace was a defensive force, averaging 17.0 rebounds and 6.9 blocks per game. He continued his collegiate career at Virginia Union University before moving on to the NBA in 1996.
Wallace is regarded as one of the best defensive players of all time. He was a four-time NBA All-Star (2003-2006), four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006) and won the 2004 NBA title with the Detroit Pistons during his 16 seasons in the league. He spent a season and a half with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2008 and 2009.
He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021 — the first player in the modern era selected for that honor.
