Ross takes home OCCAC Player of the Year, nine Triceratops named All-DII OCCAC
PARMA, Ohio (athletics.tri-c.edu) – The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference released their list of all-conference honorees, May 20, and the champion Triceratops have their names all over the list with nine total player winners.
Redshirt freshman Jamir Ross (Dayton, Ohio) was named the conference's Division II Player of the Year, First Team Division II All-OCCAC and Division II All-Freshman after a superb, well-rounded season. Ross batted .381 across 36 games this season, flashing power, contact and speed with seven home runs, 48 RBIs and a team-high 29 stolen bases.
Joining Ross on the All-Freshman team was catcher Alex "A.J." Trobenter (Fr./Euclid, Ohio), who finished the season on a tear with his three home runs and 20 RBIs all coming after the calendar flipped to April. In the month of May, which was all postseason games and a series for the OCCAC Championship against Bryant & Stratton College (OH), Trobenter had at least one base hit in nine of 11 games played, all three of his home runs, and 12 of his 20 RBIs. Trobenter also landed on the All-OCCAC Second Team.
Rounding out the All-OCCAC First Team were Ethan Elbert (So./Grafton, Ohio), Keagan Gilbride (So./Akron, Ohio), and Jackson Boles (So.). Elbert and Gilbride made up much of the Triceratops' strong rotation, with Elbert posting a 6.85 ERA over 46 innings with 62 strikeouts. Gilbride was an elite run-preventer, with a 3.04 ERA over 50.1 innings and 62 strikeouts on the season. Boles repeats as All-OCCAC First Team with a .315 batting average, 32 RBIs, four home runs and 20 stolen bases.
The Triceratops also had five All-OCCAC Second Team honorees: David Moore (So./Houston, Texas/Akron), Trobenter, Vinny Gallaher (So./Toledo, Ohio), Zeylen Yanmaz (Fr./Medina, Ohio), and Nathan Hill (So./Medina, Ohio/Toledo). Moore paced Tri-C with 52.0 innings pitched alongside a 3.98 ERA and 60 strikeouts. Gallaher earned his second consecutive All-OCCAC Second Team nod behind a team-high .431 batting average and 55 RBIs. Yanmaz hit .348 on the season with outstanding defense at second base. Hill was the main power producer for the Triceratops, with a team-high 11 home runs to go with 45 RBIs, 25 stolen bases and a .342 batting average.
