NJCAA names Alex “A.J.” Trobenter Player of the Week
PARMA, Ohio (athletics.tri-c.edu) – The National Junior College Athletic Association has named Alex "A.J." Trobenter (Fr./Euclid, Ohio) as their player of the week, May 13.
Trobenter forced his way into the Triceratops lineup with a blistering hot end to April, only to up his play even more in the postseason. In the NJCAA Region XII Opening Round series against Bryant & Stratton College (OH), Trobenter started the final two games and made his mark in a big way. The freshman catcher batted .700 in the series, putting up a mind-boggling nine runs batted in with three home runs.
In context, Trobenter's stats are even more impressive. With the Cuyahoga Community College Triceratops (33-16-1, 13-3 OCCAC) dropping game one in the best-of-three series to the Bobcats, Trobenter took over. He tallied four hits with two home runs – his first collegiate multi-home run game – to help force a winner-takes-all game three. In that rubber match, Trobenter had three more hits and four RBIs, including a walk-off two-run blast to send Tri-C to the Region XII Championship Rounds with an 18-9 run-rule win.
UP NEXT
Trobenter and the Triceratops are heading to Jackson, Michigan for the Region XII Championship Round, May 14-16. Their first matchup is against No. 2 Macomb Community College, May 14 at 11 a.m. from JC Baseball Field.
All games at the Region XII Championship Rounds will be broadcast on the NJCAA Region XII YouTube channel.
