The Triceratops Take Three of Four From Clark State in Strong Conference Weekend
April 10–11, 2026 — Cuyahoga Community College vs. Clark State Eagles
Series Result: Triceratops win 3 of 4
Cuyahoga Community College put together a strong all-around performance over the weekend, winning three of four conference games against the Clark State Eagles behind timely hitting, dominant starting pitching, and aggressive play on the bases. The Triceratops showed resilience early, power throughout the lineup, and lockdown pitching late to secure an important series victory.
The Triceratops wasted no time showcasing their fight, rallying from a 5-0 first-inning deficit in the opening game of the series. After the Eagles jumped out early with a five-run frame, the Triceratops steadily chipped away at the lead. Sophomore Jamir Ross provided the spark, launching two home runs and driving in four runs to fuel the comeback. Ross's solo shot in the second inning helped get the Triceratops on the board before the offense continued to build momentum in the third behind a Zeylan Yanmaz (Fr.) single and Ross RBI double.
The decisive moment came in the sixth inning when Ross delivered his second home run of the game, followed by a two-run double from Vinny Gallaher (So.) that gave the Triceratops the lead for good. Kyle Figuray (So.) sealed the comeback with 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, helping secure a 10-6 victory. Nathan Hill (So.) and Gallaher each collected multiple hits, while the TOPS added pressure on the bases with three stolen bases.
The Eagles responded in the second game of the doubleheader, but the Triceratops continued to show offensive pressure throughout the contest. Gallaher tripled and Nash Driedger (Fr.) added a sacrifice fly to give the Triceratops an early advantage, while David Moore (So.) turned in a solid start, allowing just two runs (one earned) over four innings. TRI-C remained aggressive on the bases, swiping five bags, including two from Jakob Jones (Fr.), but the Eagles used timely hitting late to even the series.
Saturday, the Triceratops returned home to Ron Mottl Field and quickly regained control. The Triceratops jumped ahead early behind Ross' two-run single and a Yanmaz sacrifice fly before Kohan Merritt (So.) added a solo home run in the second inning. Ethan Elbert (So.) delivered another strong outing, allowing just two runs — both unearned — over five innings while striking out five. Jackson Boles (So.) led the offensive effort from the nine spot with two hits, while Ross added three RBIs as the Triceratops collected 10 hits and played clean, fundamentally sound baseball defensively.
The series finale belonged to sophomore Keagan Gilbride 9So.), who delivered one of the most dominant performances of the season. Gilbride struck out 10 batters across seven shutout innings, allowing just five hits and walking none while keeping the Eagles off balance all afternoon.
The Triceratops broke the game open in the fifth inning with a five-run frame highlighted by an RBI single from Boles, an RBI double from Driedger, and a three-run double from Brock Miller (So.). The Triceratops finished with 11 hits in the finale, with Boles, Hill, Gallaher, and Ross each recording multi-hit performances. Ross also added two stolen bases as the Triceratops continued to pressure Eagles defensively.
Across the four-game series, the Triceratops combined for 40 hits, showcased depth throughout the lineup, and received strong performances from both the starting rotation and bullpen. The Triceratops also consistently applied pressure on the bases, turning aggressive base running into scoring opportunities throughout the weekend.
With the series win, the Triceratops continues to build momentum in conference play, using a combination of resilience, power, and dominant pitching to secure another important weekend against the Eagles.
