The Streak reaches 19!
March 29 - Kirkland, Ohio
"I have never coached a team with a winning margin this big," Coach Kyle Stahlberg said following the Triceratops' rout of the Lakeland Community College Lakers in a weekend, on-the-road double-header with a combined score of 47-2. "We have a fairly young team, but everyone is locked in," he said.
The Triceratops dominated from the first pitch, taking game one 32-0 before continuing the offensive onslaught in game two with a 15-2 win. With the victories, the team extended its winning streak to 19 consecutive games and sits atop the conference with a perfect 6-0 record (20-5). "Our bats are flaming hot," Stahlberg said. "We are playing complimentary ball and remaining true to our mission."
In game one, Kohan Merritt wasted no time getting the party started with a three-run blast to right field, driving in five RBIs. Brock Miller was a force at the plate, going four for five with a home run, a double and seven RBIs. He was joined by Kyle Figuray, who drove in four RBIs, including a homer of his own. Pat Farrell added a double and three RBIs. Jackson Boles contributed two doubles, three RBIs, and five runs scored on three hits, while Joey Lehner chipped in with three hits and two RBIs.
On the mound, Vinny Gallaher struck out seven in three innings to earn the win. Caleb Obee came in for relief, throwing two scoreless innings and striking out two batters.
In game two, the Triceratops rode the momentum. Gallaher joined the offensive barrage with four RBIs including two doubles. He finished with three hits on the day. Farrell was also a key contributor, scoring three runs and continuing his hot streak at the plate. Merritt and Lehner each added doubles.
Miller added two hits and a pair of RBIs, while Figuray contributed with multiple hits and RBIs.
"We're playing with confidence right now, and it shows in all phases of the game — hitting, pitching and defense," Stahlberg said. "We've got a lot of talent on this team, and each player contributes."
The Triceratops will look to extend the streak next week as they entertain the Walsh University Cavaliers at 6 p.m. April 1 at Ron Mottl Field, 1100 West Pleasant Valley Road in Parma Heights.
