Cuyahoga Community College wins third consecutive OCCAC All-Sports Award

CLEVELAND, Ohio (athletics.tri-c.edu) – The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference announced that Cuyahoga Community College earned the conference's All-Sports Award as the conference's top performing institution across all OCCAC-sponsored sports.

2025-26's award win marks the third consecutive year Tri-C has earned the conference's All-Sports Award. In total, all three of Tri-C's All-Sports awards have come in the last three years.

The OCCAC All-Sports award is given out annually to the top performing institution in the conference based on how each sport finishes in the respective standings. More points are earned by a school for higher finishes, with a conference championship earning the most points. Tri-C posted 47.5 points with their six OCCAC-sponsored sports (baseball, men's basketball, men's soccer, softball, women's basketball, volleyball), finishing with 11.5 more points than the second place Edison State Community College.

The award is in addition to Executive Director of Athletics, Recreation and Wellness Anthony Franklin winning the Michael Rickard OCCAC Athletics Director of the Year Award, as announced last week.

As evidenced by the award, 2025-26 was a banner year for Triceratops athletics.

The softball team's OCCAC Championship, Great Lakes District A Championship and trip to the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series is the headliner for the Triceratops across the year. Conference awards were aplenty among the softball team, with eight Triceratops earning First Team All-OCCAC honors, including Reese Adkins (So./Oak Harbor, Ohio) winning conference Player of the Year and Golden Glove behind a near-perfect 16-1 record.

Also on the diamond, the baseball team captured their third consecutive conference championship during a thrilling four-game season-closing series against Bryant & Stratton College. The baseball Triceratops posted an outstanding 34-18-1 overall record and 13-3 mark in the conference. Nine Triceratops earned All-OCCAC honors, including four with First Team distinction and Jamir Ross (R-Fr./Dayton, Ohio) taking home OCCAC Co-Player of the Year. Tri-C baseball would go on to win three consecutive elimination games at the Region 12 Championship rounds before finishing as Region Runners-Up.

Also earning a conference championship was the women's basketball team, earning their second title in four seasons. The Triceratops got out to a blistering start, winning 10 of their first 11 games, culminating with an 18-8 record. Head coach Dion Griffin earned his second conference Coach of the Year award and freshman La'Nia Moore (Canton, Ohio) was named OCCAC Player of the Year. Moore was joined by Syair Young (Fr./Stow, Ohio) on the All-OCCAC list. They would ultimately fall in the Region 12 semifinals

Men's soccer finished second in the OCCAC with an 8-5-2 overall record and 3-2-1 mark in conference play. Ryuko Yanase (Fr.) earned the OCCAC's Goalkeeper of the Year award and was one of four Triceratops to earn All-OCCAC honors – tied with Owens Community College for the most honorees in the conference. Despite not winning the conference title, the soccer team earned a bid into the Region 12 tournament, where they were defeated in the semifinal round.

Women's volleyball also posted one of their most successful seasons since the program's return from COVID-19 in 2021, going 10-11 overall, but posting a solid 7-3 mark in-conference to finish in second place. Mikayla Brown (So.) earned First Team All-OCCAC honors, while Audrey Fusci (Fr./Mantua, Ohio) was named to the Second Team list. Like the soccer team, the volleyball team earned a postseason bid to the Great Lakes District B Championships.

Finally, men's basketball placed fourth in the league with a 16-11 overall mark and 11-5 line in conference play. Behind two All-OCCAC honorees in First Teamer John 'Favor' McFadden (Fr.) and Second Teamer Tyson Garner (So.), the Triceratops made it so every OCCAC-sponsored team at Tri-C earned a spot in the Region 12 postseason, ultimately making it to the Great Lakes District C Semifinals.
