Triceratops Exact Revenge on Hawks with Overtime Victory
Cuyahoga 68, Hocking 61 (OT) 17 January 2026
Just one week after suffering a heartbreaking 61-60 overtime loss at Hocking Community College, the Triceratops returned the favor on their home court Friday night, pulling away for a 68-61 victory in the extra period to avenge the earlier defeat.
La'Nia Moore led the charge with a game-high 19 points on efficient 6-of-10 shooting, including a clutch 7-of-9 performance from the free-throw line. Her third-quarter heroics kept the Triceratops in the fight when the Hawks threatened to pull away, as she scored 6 crucial points, including back-to-back baskets that reclaimed a 41-40 lead for the Triceratops.
But it was the overtime period where Cuyahoga truly made its statement, outscoring the Hawks 14-5 to emphatically close out the victory. Syair Young delivered the dagger with a momentum-shifting three-pointer in the extra session that put the Triceratops ahead for good, capping off her 9-point performance that featured three triples.
Hayley Stoddard provided steady scoring throughout with 15 points, while Summer Peterson (11 points) and Jayleena Bauzo (10 points) also reached double figures in the balanced attack.
The game got off to a rocky start as the Hawks jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, but Peterson answered with a clutch three-pointer to give the Triceratops its first lead at 13-11. The teams remained deadlocked 13-13 after the opening quarter.
The second quarter belonged to the Triceratops, as Stoddard led a balanced offensive surge that built a 29-22 halftime advantage. Stoddard scored 5 points in the period as Cuyahoga found its rhythm offensively.
The second half turned into a back-and-forth battle with multiple momentum swings. The Hawks stormed back with a 9-point run in the third quarter to take a 39-33 lead, but Moore's clutch response kept the Triceratops within striking distance. The fourth quarter remained tight throughout, with neither team able to establish control before regulation ended in a deadlock.
This time, however, the overtime period would have a different ending. The Triceratops' poise and experience took over when it mattered most, delivering the revenge victory their fans had been waiting for.
