Triceratops Fall in Overtime Heartbreaker at Hocking

Hocking 61, Cuyahoga 60 (OT) January 10, 2026

NELSONVILLE, Ohio – Cuyahoga Community College fought until the final buzzer but came up just short, falling 61-60 in overtime to Hocking Community College in a road thriller that had both teams trading blows for 45 minutes.

The heartbreaking defeat drops the Triceratops to 12-4 on the season, but the razor-thin margin speaks to the competitive fight Cuyahoga brought against a determined Hawks squad on their home floor.

Hayley Stoddard was magnificent for the Triceratops, pouring in a game-high 22 points on an efficient 8-of-11 shooting, including a perfect 1-for-1 from beyond the arc. Her third-quarter takeover was the highlight of the night, as she personally answered a 6-point Hocking surge with a spectacular 9-point run that gave Cuyahoga a 38-32 advantage. Stoddard drained a three-pointer, knocked down clutch field goals, and converted at the free-throw line to single-handedly swing momentum back to the visitors.

Syair Young provided crucial support with 11 points, hitting three three-pointers, including back-to-back triples late in regulation that helped force overtime with the score knotted at 56-56. Jayleena Bauzo and La'Nia Moore each added 8 points, while Summer Peterson chipped in 7 points in the losing effort.

After falling behind 4-0 early, the Triceratops found their rhythm with a 5-0 run late in the first quarter, sparked by Bauzo's three-pointer and Young's deep shot that gave Cuyahoga a 13-8 lead. The teams traded baskets throughout the second quarter, with the Triceratops taking a slim 23-21 advantage into halftime.

The fourth quarter featured multiple lead changes as neither team would relent, setting up the overtime drama. Cuyahoga appeared poised for victory after building a 60-56 lead in the extra period on scores from Tylia Parker, Bauzo, and Stoddard, but Hocking closed with 5 unanswered points to escape with the narrow victory.

Despite the tough outcome, the Triceratops showed the resilience and competitive fire that have fueled their successful season.

Next up, the Triceratops will host a conference foe Owens on 14 Jan 2026. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the East Gymnasium located at 4250 Richmond Road, Highland Hills, OH 44122.
