The Triceratops Fall Short Against Lady Express, 58-49

The Triceratops (7-12, 4-6) struggled offensively once again, falling 58-49 to the Express of Owens Community College on 1 February. Despite limiting Owens' high-powered offense to 12 points below their season average, the Lady Triceratops couldn't generate enough offense to keep pace.

"We've got to score points," said Coach Dion Griffin. "We're not that far off," he added, noting the team's continued efforts on defense and rebounding. The Triceratops forced 24 turnovers and dominated the glass, out-rebounding Owens by 12.

Tyairah Flowers was the only player in double figures, finishing with 14 points. After a thrilling win over Lakeland on January 25, the team couldn't find their rhythm offensively. The Express quickly seized control, ending the first quarter with a 20-8 lead. Although the Triceratops fought back throughout the game, they couldn't recover from the early deficit.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Triceratops held Owens to just 14% shooting from beyond the arc and allowed only four second-chance points.
  • Jayleena Bauzo led the team with five assists.

Key Stat:

  • The Triceratops shot just 36% from the field.
