Tops Begin New Era in Thrilling Fashion
Sometimes, going through adversity makes a team stronger and the Tops went through adversity last night in their season opener on the road at Erie County Community College near Buffalo, NY to come away with a thrilling 49-47 victory.
The Tops got off to a slow start but poured it on at the end. After scoring just 16 points in the first half the women scored 23 in the fourth quarter capped by a Briana Bunkley three pointer as time expired to take their first lead of the game and get their first win of the season!
The Tops were led by Qulmarl Shelton who posted impressive numbers. She finished with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 steals.
LaTaljha Cherry came off the bench to add a much-needed punch with 10 points, 8 boards, and 2 timely blocks that helped in the win.
The Tops will travel to Delta to play in the Pioneer Tip Off Tournament hosted at Delta College (MI). The Tops will play Wayne CC on Saturday at 1 pm and play Delta at 4 pm on Sunday.
