Julee Phillips brings home NJCAA Third-Team All-American honors
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (athletics.tri-c.edu) – Star pitcher Julee Phillips (So./Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) is closing out her Cuyahoga Community College career with a bang, earning National Junior College Athletic Association Third-Team All-American honors, the organization announced June 10.
The NJCAA recognition continues to fill Phillips's trophy case, which already includes a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region nod, NJCAA Region 12 Tournament MVP, First-Team All-OCCAC and two NJCAA Pitcher of the Week awards from this season.
Phillips was a crucial piece for the Region-champion Triceratops, leading the way for the pitching staff that finished with the Region's lowest ERA (2.24), highest strikeout per seven inning ratio (8.37) and second-most strikeouts (302).
Inside the circle, Phillips's individual marks are just as gaudy. The sophomore finished as the NJCAA leader in ERA, closing the season with a miniscule 0.54 mark as one of two pitchers to end the season with a sub-1.00 ERA. Phillips also ranked fifth in the nation in strikeouts with 219.
Phillips was dominant in the Triceratops' race to the OCCAC championship, tearing through her conference foes to the tune of a 0.38 ERA with 82 strikeouts across 54.2 innings pitched against OCCAC opponents. She allowed the fewest earned runs in conference play with just six and paced the league in strikeouts per seven innings.
In the Great Lakes District A Tournament, Phillips was unstoppable, pitching all 19 innings for the Triceratops while only allowing one unearned run and striking out 17 batters. Phillips also posted 11 strikeouts in three games at the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series.
