Tri-C Softball Season Ends at Regional Tournament
The successful "comeback" season for the Triceratops Softball team ended in the third game of the Great Lakes B Regional Tournament today. The Tops opened play yesterday against Kalamazoo Valley CC and fell 4-1. They came back this morning to defeat Henry Ford CC, 8-7. Unfortunately, the Tops had to play first seed Oakland CC and were defeated 10-1.
Game 1 L to Kalmazoo Valley 4-1
In a great pitching and defensive matchup, the Tops were defeated by Kalamazoo Valley, 4-1. Cecilia Stephens continued her terrific season by leading the Tops at the plate with 2 hits and a walk, but KV pitching held the Tops to only 5 hits on the day. On the mound, Hallie Mullett got the start and gave the Tops 4 and 1/3 strong innings scatterin 7 hits and giving up 4 runs. Two big KV homeruns were the downfall. Lyndsey Baglia and Maelly McGowen held KV scoreless in relief but the offense was styimied by the KV pitcher who finished with 13 strikeouts on the day.
Game 2 W over Henry Ford 8-7
The Tops jumped out to a 7-2 lead and it looked like it might be over early but Henry Ford fought back and the Tops held on to take an 8-7 victory. Maddie Brockman and Mckenna Miller each had multiple hits for the Tops. Nicole Goode drove in three runs on the day. On the mound, Mikayla Rash got the start and went 3 innings giving up 3 runs. After relieiving Lyndsey Baglia, Hallie Mullett got the save pitching the 7th to preserve the win.
Game 3 L to Oakland CC
The Tops bowed out of the tournament with a loss to a tough Oakland CC team. Oakland broke the game open in the 2nd scoring 6 runs. The Tops bats only produced 4 hits on they day (Stephens, Ries Johnson, Brockman, Rash). On the mound, Mullett got the start and was relieved by McGowen and Baglia but the Tops couldn't slow the Oakland offense who pounded out 12 hits.
The Tops finish the season 19-15 overall.
