Tri-C Softball Finishes Home Slate with Sweep of Lakeland
The Triceratops softball team finished their home slate with a sweep of Lakeland College on Friday afternoon. It would also prove to be the end of the regular season as the weekend games were rained out. The Tops will now move into the post season next weekend in Michigan in regional play.
Game 1 W 13-8
The Tops jumped out to a 9-0 lead through 2 innings and it looked like it would be a short one even after the Lakers scored 3 in the top of the 3rd the Tops responded with 2 of their own in the bottom of the inning. Lakeland cut the lead to 11-7 in the 6th but the Tops would hold on to take the victory. Lyndsey Baglia got the win for the Tops. At the plate, every player in the lineup had multiple hits led by Nicold Goode, Kelsey Murphy and Maya Sheller each with 3 hits. Murphy added 4 RBIs on the day as the team had 21 hits.
Game 2 W 10-2
The Tops were in control from the start with Hallie Mullett scattering 9 hits and striking out 8 for the win in her final game at home. The Tops were led at the plate by CeCe Stephens who was a perfect 4 for 4 with a triple. Maddie Brockman had 3 hits and also drove in 4 while Nicole Goode and Oliva Lopez each had 2 hits on the day with one of Lopez's being a homerun.
The Tops moved to 18-13 overall and 14-6 in OCCAC play and will await the release of the regional bracket today to see who they play in the first round.
