Tops Sweep Express, Regain 1st place in OCCAC

The Tri-C Baseball team swept the Owens Express, the #15 ranked team in NJCAA Division III, by scores of 14-4 and 9-4.  After playing 3 doubleheaders in as many days the Tops found great satisfaction in defeating last seasons OCCAC champions. 

Game 1  Tops 14  Express 4 (5 innings)

The Tops bats were alive and kicking as they pounded out 15 hits on the day.  Mason Koons, Kyle Koehler each had three hits while Connor Bozak, Braden Reed and Cole Archual had two each.  Reed had a great day returning to the lineup with a homerun and double and 3 RBIs.  Bozak also had a double and 3 RBIs.  On the mound, Jackson Judy was masterful, going 4 1/3 innings striking out 10 and Gavin Mangus was on his game finishing the game striking out 2 giving up only one hit.

Game 2   Tops 9  Express 4

Once again the Tops bats were electric with 13 hits.  Brendan Hazuda had 3 hits on the day while Silas Moore and Justin Thiesen each had two.  Koelher had 2 RBI's while Thiesen had 3.  On the mound, Gavin Mangus got the start followed by Ricardo Medrano and Mitchell Lang.  The committee only gave up 7 hits in 7 innings while striking out 7.

 

With the win the Tops move back into first place in the OCCAC at 13-3 and 23-11 overall.  They will play a weekend series with Edison State (5th place in OCCAC, 8-8 and 13-14 overall) traveling to Edison on Saturday and hosting Edison starting at 12 on Sunday.
